Long Flights Don't Have To Be Horrible

If your big vacation or family get together is scheduled somewhere far from home, you may be looking for some ways to make your flight more comfortable and enjoyable. Whatever you are flying for, being comfortable will help to make that trip something you want to remember, rather than forget.

One of the first steps you should take, is to find out what kind of seating your airline offers. You'll want to make sure you have enough leg room, no matter how far you are going. Being squished in, with your knees spread wide or jammed together, will make any flight seem horrible. Emergency exit rows tend to have quite a bit of space, and window seats can help you by giving you a place to rest your head. Also, there are some airlines that offer seats with extra leg room, even in economy class!

Showering before you head to the airport can help to relieve that post flight funk you can get at the end of a long flight. And don't forget to take your toothbrush as well, you can use it to make sure your teeth don't feel like they are wearing sweaters after an in flight nap.

Make sure that you wear comfortable clothing; something loose fitting and maybe even slip-on shoes. That way, if you decide you'd like to take a little nap, you have given yourself even more options. Feel free to kick you shoes off while you sit, and you can slip them right back on when it's time to stretch your legs or use the restroom. You should also make sure to get out of you seat at least once an hour. This will help you keep your circulation up, and your muscles will thank you later.

Keep your every day essentials with you. Having your lip balm or Kleenex handy can help the comfort of home seem that much closer. Also, by having a bottle of water and your daily vitamins within reach, you can make sure that you are hydrated and your immune system helps to keep other people's bugs from wreaking havoc on you. Another great way to keep yourself feeling "up" is to hit the restroom and wash up before each meal.

Bring some snacks. Yes, the airline will serve you meals, but who really knows how good they will be? If you pack something small and easy, that you know you enjoy, then you will be making sure that you will not have to force yourself to eat something that you may or may not regret later. Also, make sure that the snacks you bring are healthy. Not only will it taste better, it will allow you to maintain your blood sugar as you travel. All that sitting can work up a heck of an appetite!

If there is going to be a drastic time change, try very hard to eat meals at local times and stay awake until the local bedtime. If you just have to take a nap, then try to sleep for no more than 3 hours. Falling asleep at 3:00pm may result in you waking up at Midnight. You will likely be wide awake, and unable to get back to sleep again until morning. No one wants to waste the first day of their vacation catching up on sleep!

You will need to do everything you can to keep your mind off of the length of your trip. Pack yourself several books and magazines, that way you won't get bored by being stuck to one story or genre. Make sure that the books you bring are from an author you like. It would be horrible to realize too late that the only book you have, is a stinker.

MP3 players are great to help you keep your mind occupied. They take up very little space, and you can pack them full of music, audio books, and even videos for your entertainment. If you have a laptop computer, a long flight is a great time to get some work done or even gain a few levels on your favorite video game. If you are on an airline that offers in flight movies, make sure to bring a pair of earphones with you. That way you won't get charged a fee to use theirs.

Playing cards can help to pass the time by yourself, but they can also be a great way for you to meet people. Invite your neighbor to play a hand of poker with you, and you never know what may come of it. The same goes with travel games like Scrabble Folio or Pictionary.

These are some of the best things you can do to make sure that your trip is an enjoyable one. Now, it's up to you!
